Rain City Ramblers at Kombucha Town

Hailing from Seattle, Washington, the Rain City Ramblers are an exciting acoustic trio that draws upon the deep well of American roots music to practice their own original songwriting and arrangement. Featuring Forrest Marowitz (upright bass), Daniel Ullom (mandolin) and Jim Horbett (guitar), they can rip fiddle tunes, set down a groovy two-step, and render haunting versions of folk ballads. Their minimalistic line-up and tight vocal arrangements can captivate people in living rooms, street corners, and on stages. In the short time they have been together, they have been featured at the Seattle Folklife Festival and at local venues like the Tractor Tavern and Conor Byrne Pub. They are currently working on their first full-length album, which is expected to be released in January 2017.

WECU Presents: Eat For The Arts

WECU Presents: Eat For The Arts

Whatcom County and Bellingham residents are invited to "Eat for the Arts" at breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, Thursday, October 13th, as a way to support the creation and construction of the Sylvia Center for the Arts, a new local performing arts center to be built in downtown Bellingham, as well as supporting Bellingham's diverse and vibrant dining scene.

Our Culture Café at Kombucha Town will be participating in "Eat for the Arts," and we are more than happy to donate a percentage of our October 13th sales to the capital campaign, run by iDiOM Theater, to convert the historic Cascade Laundry Building into the Sylvia Center for the Arts. This will be a brand new, multiple-venue performing arts center designed to help meet the need for an affordable and accessible home for multiple local performing arts organizations to perform, rehearse, and teach classes!

March Art Walk- Pop Up Dance Show

Catch Bellingham Repertory Dancers as they join in the free, public art at the March Downtown Art Walk. This month we have partnered with three local businesses who have generously offered to host a live solo performance by dancer Tatyana Stahler.

7:00 - US! CULTURE CAFE
7:30 - Hatch (221 Prospect St)
8:00 - Cafe Bouzingo (1209 Cornwall Ave)

Here is a little Bio from the team!

Tatyana is dancing in her second performance with Bellingham Repertory Dance, slipping into the skin and suitcoat of a work from Seattle choreographer Eva Stone. Catch this intricate and haunting solo in the intimate environments of the stages and hallways of local Bellingham businesses.

Bellingham Repertory Dance can be found at three locations during the evening. We will start at Kombucha Town’s Culture Cafe at 7:00, move to Hatch at 7:30, and finish at Cafe Bouzingo at 8:00. Performances at each of these spaces will be brief, so plan to arrive on time to catch the dancer in action. Follow us for the whole walk, or catch just one show.

These pop-up concert snippets serve as a teaser for BRD's Mount Baker Theatre debut "Decade," a one-night only production on Saturday, April 9th. Tickets are on sale now at: www.mountbakertheatre.com/shows/decade-a-tenth-anniversary-celebration

Culture Cafe Host Art Walk!

Happy February!

Art walk is coming up this Friday and culture cafe is proud to announce the Bellingham artists we are celebrating!

Bellingham is ranked the 2nd best arts community in the country,
— Downtown Bellingham partnership

In Whatcom county and the city of Bellingham, we have a mixture of art galleries, local music from the streets to the university, museum exhibitions, comedy shows, theatre productions and art displayed in cafes in the form of tables and chairs. Art walk makes it possible for us to stop and appreciate this world around us and provides us with an active and diverse calendar of events throughout the year.

Check the local artists inspiring us this Friday Night at the Culture Cafe...

Music: Kate Czaja

"I grew up in Connecticut until I was inspired to move to the San Juan Islands with my sister. My youth was saturated in the wild of Puget Sound, and held in the warmth of a small community. Living in the northwest has helped me stumble upon many opportunities for adventure, from hiking the Cascades to the Himalayas, and I’ve completely fallen in love with the outdoors. Before moving to Bellingham, I felt the need for change in the way that humans interact with the natural rhythms of the earth more urgently than ever, and began to seemusic become both a place of release for me and an outlet for calling people to action. I am currently beginning the work of recording an album, as well as planning my next journey to experience the national parks of this country."

Woodwork: Aiden Brehan

Aiden grew up in Whatcom County and graduated from Ferndale High School. He has been swinging a hammer since he was young and began woodworking several years ago building decks and fences. Aiden splits his time between snowboarding and woodworking in the winter and fishing in Alaska in the summer.

Aiden enjoys the process of taking roughsawn and reclaimed lumber from any source and processing and utilizing the wood to the most it can be, finding simplicity in reuse. You can see Aiden’s work at Wander Brewing, Gruff Brewing and the Culture Cafe at Kombucha Town.

Metal Work: Chris Baker

Chris moved to Bellingham almost 20 years, drawn to the Pacific Northwest for its epic snowboarding and prime location next to the mountains and the Puget Sound. His specialty is in commercial metalwork for breweries, which morphed into more artistic jobs including the metalwork for the bars and tables at the Culture Cafe at Kombucha Town.

You can see Chris’ work at Kulshan Brewery, Elysian Brewery in Seattle, and many private residences.
